Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at TriStar Health, together with iconic vocalist, Martina McBride and Big Machine Label Group (BMLG), announced July 26 that the Band Against Cancer: The Sarah Cannon Tour will be part of a special Grand Ole Opry® performance on October 26, 2016. Tickets will go on sale August 5, 2016 at 10:00am Central Time at bandagainstcancer.com and opry.com. As the leading voice for the campaign, McBride will take the Opry stage and will invite a few of her Country music friends to join.

Band Against Cancer is a national movement to connect people facing cancer with community-based resources and support close to home. The movement is activated through The Sarah Cannon Tour concert series with Martina McBride & Friends, which is also traveling to Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Denver this year. The performance at the Grand Ole Opry® performance will feature onsite activations to join the movement and support those fighting cancer, as well as opportunities for cancer patients to share their stories and connect with others fighting in the same journey.

“Together with Sarah Cannon, we are committed to supporting everyone affected by cancer in Middle Tennessee by providing cutting-edge treatments, access to clinical trials, strong physician leadership and high quality care,” said Steve Corbeil, president of the TriStar Division of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). “By coming together with the Nashville community, we can advance the fight against cancer in a significant way – by connecting those affected by the disease with the resources and support that they need close to home.”

This year, Band Against Cancer has a special focus on those facing blood cancer, an underserved patient population requiring convenient access to cutting-edge treatment options in their community. Blood cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. The tour supports Sarah Cannon’s community partners including The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Communities can further support LLS by joining Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at TriStar Health’s Light The Night Walk team, which is partnering with Martina and her Team Music is Love advocates, for the annual Light The Night Walk on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Nissan Stadium. "As a 20-year member of the Grand Ole Opry, I am thrilled to come home to the Opry stage and perform for my fans as well as help the Sarah Cannon Cancer Network with their Band Against Cancer initiative," said Martina McBride. "The Sarah Cannon Tour is supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which is also so important to me because of the impact LLS makes for countless families in our communities across the country.”

For patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a bone marrow or cord blood transplant may be their best or only hope for a cure. However, 70 percent of patients who need a transplant do not have a fully matched donor in their family. Patients depend on Be The Match® and its supporters to find a match to save their lives. Through Band Against Cancer, Sarah Cannon and TriStar Health are proud to partner with Be The Match® to help find more committed and available members of the community who will sign up to save a life. Patients facing blood cancer in Middle Tennessee can access comprehensive blood cancer services through the Sarah Cannon Center for Blood Cancer at TriStar Centennial Medical Center, which offers cutting-edge treatments, including autologous and allogeneic transplants, and related and unrelated donor transplants.

In addition to the events, Martina premiered “Just Around the Corner” from her newly released RECKLESS album (Nash Icon Records) on the CMT Awards in June. Inspired by the movement, the song serves as the official Band Against Cancer anthem and is a message of hope and strength for those facing cancer.
